Kolkata, March 24 (IANS) Senior citizens who find it difficult to grapple with basic computing and internet activities can learn the essentials, courtesy a special summer camp course, an organiser said on Tuesday.

To be launched in May, the summer vacation science camp at the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum here will aid the elderly to pick up basics like netbanking and getting connected via the internet with their children and grandchildren living abroad.

"The 'Learn to Use Computer' camp will begin May 21 in two batches and is specifically meant for senior citizens who want to brush up on the basics. Home-makers can also enroll," a BITM official told IANS.

In addition, the art and craft module will help home-makers make productive use of their free time by teaching them to make decorative items from waste, the official said.

Concluding on June 5, the camp will conduct sessions on maths and science subjects like robotics and astronomy for school-goers from standard three to 12.

"This year, we have also included two sessions on maths and science for younger students (students of standard three and four) so they could receive orientation in these subjects before they begin their new academic sessions," the official said.
