Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again come out in support of Telugu star Allu Arjun. He recently criticized the arrest of Allu Arjun after the tragic stampede at the Hyderabad premiere of 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' which resulted in the death of a female fan. The incident took place at Sandhya theatre where a huge crowd had gathered to watch the superstar. Now Ram Gopal Varma has urged actors to protest what he considers an unjust arrest. He has also compared it to a similar tragedy that took place during the filming of 'Kshana Kshanam' starring late actress Sridevi.
Is it a crime to be a star?
Recently, Ram Gopal Varma defended Allu Arjun on his official X account (formerly Twitter) saying that celebrities cannot be held responsible for the consequences of their immense popularity. He wrote, 'Every star should strongly protest the arrest of Allu Arjun because for any celebrity, be it a film star or a political star, is it a crime for them to be extremely popular?'
Compared to the Sridevi incident
Ram Gopal Varma recalled a comparable incident from the shooting of 'Kshana Kshanam' where three people died in a massive crowd that had reportedly gathered to see Sridevi. Questioning the justification of the legal action taken against Arjun, he said, "Three people died from the crowd of lakhs that had come to see Sridevi during the shooting of my film Kshana Kshanam. So, will the Telangana police go to heaven to arrest Sridevi now?"
Allu Arjun was arrested.
The 'Pushpa' star was arrested on December 13, following allegations that he and the theatre management failed to inform the police about his visit, leading to the deadly stampede. Arjun spent a night in Chanchalguda Central Jail and was initially put in 14-day judicial custody. However, the Telangana High Court later granted him a four-week interim bail.
Allu Arjun came forward to help the family of the deceased
After this, Allu Arjun promised to give Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased fan. At the same time, Allu Arjun's father Allu Arvind met the injured child who is currently on a ventilator. Also promised all possible help.
