ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested in Bangladesh on charges of sedition, will have to remain in jail for another month. The Bangladesh court has postponed the hearing on his bail plea for the next month. Actually, the bail plea was to be heard on Tuesday (3 December 2024), but no lawyer appeared in court for the hearing.

Earlier, ISKCON had claimed that a Bangladeshi lawyer defending Chinmoy Krishna Das was attacked and seriously injured by Islamic fundamentalists. He is in the ICU. After this attack, the lawyers refused to appear during the bail hearing on Tuesday, after which the Chittagong court adjourned the hearing. The court has fixed the next date of hearing as January 2, 2025.

Lawyers accused of filing false cases.

According to a report in the Bangladeshi daily The Business Standard, Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jot has alleged that a false case has been filed against about 70 Hindu lawyers to prevent them from attending the bail hearing of Chinmoy Krishna Das. The organization has said that the lawyers are being sued in a case registered under the Explosives Act at the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong, so that they cannot argue for Chinmoy Das.

ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson had posted about the attack

On Monday (December 2, 2024), ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharaman Das said in a post on X, "Please pray for advocate Ramen Roy. His only fault was to defend Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists vandalized his house and brutally attacked him, due to which he is struggling to save his life in the ICU." However, many lawyers in Bangladesh have denied any such incident.
