With 87.7 million followers, PM Modi is one of the most followed leaders on Twitter. The news about Musk's follower update was also posted on Twitter by "Elon Alerts", which monitors the Tesla chief's account activity. This has sparked a debate on Twitter, with some users claiming that this is a sign that the Tesla car will be coming to India soon.

Musk had earlier said that Tesla would not manufacture its electric cars in India unless it was first allowed to sell and service them locally. On the other hand, Indian Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that Tesla will be allowed to sell cars in India only if electric vehicles are manufactured in the country.
