Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday, December 21, during an event that India is a Hindu nation and this fact does not require any constitutional proof, as it is the truth.
Mohan Bhagwat made these remarks during a program marking the 100th anniversary of the RSS. The RSS chief said that India is a Hindu nation and will remain a Hindu nation as long as Indian culture is respected in this country.
'India is a Hindu nation.'
Speaking at a series of 100 lectures in Kolkata, Mohan Bhagwat said, "The sun rises in the east, and we don't know since when this has been happening. So, do we need the Constitution to prove this? Similarly, Hindustan is also a Hindu nation."
Mohan Bhagwat further said that the Sangh's ideology is that anyone who considers India their motherland respects Indian culture. As long as there is even one person alive on the soil of Hindustan who believes in and respects the glory of Indian ancestors, India will remain a Hindu nation.
The caste system based on birth is not identity.
Mohan Bhagwat further said during his address that even if Parliament amends the Constitution to include this word, whether they do it or not, it doesn't matter, because that word doesn't make any difference to us. We are Hindus, and our country is a Hindu nation; that is the truth. The caste system based on birth is not the identity of Hindutva.
The RSS chief further said that the word 'secular' was not originally part of the Preamble of the Constitution, but it was added along with the word 'socialist' during the Emergency under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's tenure by the Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976.
