The Election Commission will announce the dates of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections at 3 pm today. Voting is expected to take place in seven phases. Along with the Lok Sabha elections, the dates of assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh can also be announced.

 

More than seven crore voters increased in five years

According to the voter list released on February 8, 96.88 crore voters will participate in this election. Of these, 49.72 crore are men, 47.15 crore are women, and more than 48 thousand other voters. The male/female ratio of voters is 948, that is, there are 948 female voters for every thousand male voters. The percentage of voters in the total population is 66.76%.

 

There are 1.84 crore voters whose age is between 18 to 19 years. At the same time, the number of voters between 20 to 29 years is 19.74 crore. 1.85 crore voters are above 80 years of age, including 2,38,791 voters who have crossed the age of 100.

 

The number of voters has increased by more than six percent as compared to 2019. There were 89.6 crore voters in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The number of voters has increased by 7.28 crore in five years. Male voters have increased from 46.5 crore to 49.72 crore. That means the number of male voters has increased by 3.22 crore. At the same time, the number of women voters has increased from 43.1 crore to 47.15 crore. The number of women voters has increased more than that of men. 4.05 crore women voters have increased in five years.

Ram Mandir: The issue of Ram Mandir will dominate this election. On one hand, the BJP is taking credit for the prestige of the grand Ram temple. After the consecration of the temple, everyone from BJP leaders to ministers are continuously visiting Ayodhya. BJP leaders are taking devotees from different areas for darshan. The opposition will try its best to ensure that BJP does not benefit from this issue. This is the reason why sometimes some leader questions the sanctity of the temple and sometimes some leader says that now the number of devotees going to Ayodhya has reduced to a few thousand.

 

Development: The ruling BJP will also strongly raise the issue of development that has taken place in the last ten years during the elections. The achievements of the government in the last ten years in the fields of electricity, roads, water, and technology will be heavily publicized during the elections. At the same time, the opposition will raise issues like inflation, and unemployment to make the claims of development hollow.

 

Nepotism: Even before the announcement of election dates, a political battle is going on among the political parties on the issue of nepotism. On one hand, the BJP is calling the opposition an alliance of family-oriented parties. On the other hand, the opposition raised questions on Prime Minister Modi's family. However, to make it in its favor, BJP even started a social media campaign named 'Modi Ka Parivar'.

 

Corruption: BJP will be seen cornering the opposition on this issue throughout the elections. Before the elections, Prime Minister Modi himself had mentioned the bundles of notes found in raids on the houses of opposition leaders in his speeches. At the same time, the opposition has been continuously alleging that raids are conducted only on opposition leaders. No action is taken against the corrupt person who joins the BJP. During the elections, the names of such leaders will also be taken continuously by the opposition.

Unemployment: The opposition can also raise the issue of unemployment strongly during the elections. Rahul Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi was the national president of Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In that election also, Rahul had campaigned vigorously for the party. At present Mallikarjun Kharge is the national president of the party. Despite this, Rahul is the biggest face of the party. Rahul is also the biggest face of the opposition. In this election also, the biggest faces of Congress' election campaign will be Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

 

Mamata: Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be the biggest face of the party's election campaign in the state. TMC had 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. West Bengal with 42 seats has become the center of political battle even before the election dates were announced.

 

Akhilesh Yadav: Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in the country in terms of Lok Sabha seats. There are 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Party president Akhilesh Yadav will be the face of the campaign for the main opposition party Samajwadi Party.

 

Tejashwi Yadav: RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav will be the face of the opposition grand alliance campaign in Bihar.

 

Elections were announced on March 10 2019

The last time the dates for Lok Sabha elections were announced was on March 10, 2019. At that time voting was held in seven phases in the country. The first round of voting took place on 11 April, while the seventh, i.e. the last round of voting took place on 19 May. The counting of votes took place on 23 May.

 

How were the results in 2019?

In the election results declared on 23 May 2019, BJP had got 303 seats. BJP was far ahead of the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. With this victory, the party formed the government for the second consecutive time. The main opposition Congress had to be content with 52 seats. Whereas, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had got 24 seats. YSRCP and TMC were successful in winning 22 seats each.
