Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday. Rahul along with other Congress leaders was protesting against the ED. ED has summoned Sonia Gandhi in the alleged money laundering case and her interrogation is going on. After being taken into custody, Rahul Gandhi attacked the Modi government at the Center fiercely. Hitting out at the central government for "dictatorship", Rahul alleged that he was not even allowed to hold discussions inside Parliament, and leaders were arrested during the protests. Before being taken into custody, Rahul alleged, "Modi Ji is the king and there is a police raj in India."
Other party leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Ranjit Ranjan, KC Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Imran Pratapgadhi, and K Suresh have also been detained. According to a report in The Indian Express, the leaders have been taken to Kingsway Camp. The main opposition party termed the ED's action as an act of political malice and said that truth will bring an end to this dictatorship.
After being detained, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Look at dictatorship, can't hold peaceful protests, can't discuss inflation and unemployment. By misusing the police and agencies, even by arresting us, you will never be able to silence us. The truth will end this dictatorship." Earlier, Rahul Gandhi and several other Congress MPs took out a march from the Parliament House. They were trying to move towards Rashtrapati Bhavan but were stopped at Vijay Chowk by the police. After this these leaders staged a dharna there.
After some time, the police took Rahul Gandhi and several other Congress leaders into custody. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "Police stopped Congress MPs at Vijay Chowk. We were stopped from going to Rashtrapati Bhavan. and were forcibly arrested. Now we are on the police bus, only the Prime Minister and the Home Minister know where we are being taken.
The Congress says that many of its leaders protesting at the party headquarters have also been taken into custody by the police. Party general secretary Ajay Maken told reporters, "Today the Congress party is conducting satyagraha across the country. We had decided that we will conduct a satyagraha at Rajghat inside Delhi and our satyagraha will continue till Sonia Gandhi is not allowed to go back after interrogation.
Maken alleged, "Around 10 years ago today, the ED had closed the case. Now, this matter has been opened once again, only because the government can put pressure on the opposition party, and we cannot raise urgent issues. Congress workers are doing satyagraha across the country against him.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday appeared before the ED for the second round of questioning. The ED had earlier questioned the Congress president for two hours on Thursday in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper.
