Panaji, Feb 10 (IANS) The performance of elected representatives needs to be assessed in the manner the corporate sector conducts annual appraisals of its employees, an electoral watchdog official said Tuesday.
Bhasker Assoldekar, Goa coordinator for the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an NGO which analyses details filed by electoral candidates, said a method which tabulates and analyses the elected representatives' presence in legislative houses, questions raised there and other factors could help in making such a performance assessment factsheet.
"The performance assessment of the elected representatives can be done in the same way a corporate entity conducts appraisals. Right now, there is no such system. The only way performance is analysed is during the election every five years," he said.
The ADR official said the key to creating a system of appraisal of elected representatives was to find the right parameters on the basis of which they could be judged.
"They could be judged on the basis of how many times they attend the assembly, how many questions they ask, how many times they visit their local panchayats, among others," he said.
