Pakistan has given full force to get the world recognition of Taliban rule in Afghanistan. The leaders of the Taliban themselves are not in such a hurry as Imran Khan and his government is in restlessness. Pakistan's National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf has said that the world should not adopt a 'wait and watch policy. He has shown fear of this destroying Afghanistan's economy and increasing the threat of terrorism.
The Taliban took control of Afghanistan in mid-August, ousting a Western-backed elected government. Many dreaded terrorists are also included in the interim government announced by the Taliban. Most of the countries of the world, including India, have adopted the policy of 'wait and watch' Afghanistan and are in no mood to recognize the Taliban yet. All the major countries have said that they will make a decision only after looking at the human rights and attitude of the Taliban government towards women. However, in Pakistan, the prime minister, ministers, and military are acting as envoys, spokespersons, and lawyers of the Taliban.
"Wait and see (to the new Nizam in Afghanistan) will mean ruin," Yusuf said, adding that the same mistake was made in the 1990s as well. Western leaders acknowledged their mistake and promised not to repeat it. Yusuf said it was in the best interest of the world to speak personally to the Taliban about their concerns, including terrorism, human rights, and inclusive government or other issues.
Yusuf, who talks more about the Taliban than Pakistan these days, said that leaving Afghanistan alone can also become a haven for terrorists. “If it is abandoned, there will be a security vacuum. You already know that Islamic State is already there, the Pakistani Taliban is also there. Al Qaeda is. Why should we take the risk of a security vacuum?" Pakistan had earlier this month sent the chief of intelligence agency ISI, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, to Kabul.
