French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor to PM Narendra Modi. It is the highest French honor in military or civilian orders. PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive this honor. Prime Minister Modi thanked President Macron for this unique honor.
"A warm gesture symbolizing the spirit of India-France partnership," Arindam Bagchi, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, said in a tweet. Before PM Modi, former South African President Nelson Mandela, the then Prince of Wales King Charles, and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel have also received this honor.
