Polling for 11 Kashmir legislative council seats March 2

Jammu, Feb 12 (IANS) Polling for 11 seats of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative council will be held March 2, it was announced here Thursday.

The notification of election was issued by returning officer, M. Ramzan here Thursday.

As per the notifications, nomination papers can be obtained at the offices of returning officer (secretary or deputy secretary, legislative assembly) between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Feb 12 to 18.

The nomination papers can subsequently be submitted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on any day upto Feb 18.

Scrutiny will be held Feb 19 and the last date of withdrawal is Feb 21.

"In the event of election being contested, the poll will take place on March 2 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.," said the notification.

"For these 11 seats, election is to be held for four members from among persons who are residents of Kashmir Valley, one each from Ladakh and Kargil districts and the remaining five members from among persons who are residents of Jammu province," it said.

Members of the 87-member state legislative assembly are entitled to vote in the elections for the legislative council.
