Port Blair: PM Modi inaugurates new terminal building of Port Blair Airport, Union Territory will get speed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the new integrated terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair through video conferencing. This new terminal building has been constructed for Rs 710 crore. This will speed up connectivity in the union territory.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the new integrated terminal building of the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair will enhance connectivity along with ease of travel and ease of doing business.

 

PM Modi said that till now the capacity of the existing terminal was to serve 4,000 tourists daily, after the construction of the new terminal, the capacity of this airport has been increased to serve around 11,000 tourists daily. He said that the way for new planes has also been opened here.

 

Economic development will gain momentum

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has reached Port Blair. He said that today Rs 710 crore airport from Andaman-Nicobar Islands is being dedicated to India. This will lead to connectivity for Delhi-Chennai-Vishakhapatnam and more connectivity will increase in the days to come.

 

The Union Minister said that along with this four water drones will also be installed. This will lead to the economic development of the Andaman-Nicobar Islands.

 

The new terminal is equipped with many facilities

Explain that the new terminal building is spread over 40,800 square meters. The new terminal building will be able to handle approximately 5 million passengers annually. Along with this, an apron suitable for two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 type aircraft has also been constructed at Port Blair Airport for Rs 80 crore. With this, 10 aircraft can be parked simultaneously at the airport.

 

The new building is made in the shape of a conch

The new terminal building at Port Blair Airport has been given the shape of a conch shell. It represents the sea and the islands. The entire terminal will have 100 percent natural lighting for 12 hours a day, provided by roof-mounted skylights. The new terminal building has 28 check-in counters, three passenger boarding bridges, and other facilities.
