Two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces in the Drgad area of Shopian within a few hours. After the terrorists were killed, the security forces launched a search operation in the area and when it was confirmed that no other terrorists were present there, the security personnel returned from there with the bodies of both the terrorists and the weapons recovered from the encounter site.
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, while confirming the killing of two terrorists, said that at present one terrorist has been identified. His name was Adil Ahmed Wani and he was active in terrorist activities since July 2020. Not only this, he had killed a poor laborer in Litter, Pulwama. The IGP said that during the ongoing operation against terrorism in Kashmir, so far 15 terrorists have been killed by the security forces within two weeks. This was the third encounter in Shopian during this period. The identity of the second terrorist is also being ascertained. Internet service has been restored in the area after the end of the operation.
According to the information received from the police, the SOG, Army, and CRPF personnel reached the Dragad area after the sighting of the terrorists. As soon as they started searching for the terrorists, the terrorists started firing on them. As the surrounded terrorists were said to be locals, the security forces asked them to surrender by laying down their arms but they refused to do so and continued the firing. Firing is going on from both sides now. Even after one terrorist was killed, one to two terrorists are present at the encounter site. Other details are awaited.
