New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Five days after the NIA (National Investigation Agency) blamed officers of the Special Cell here for framing a man from Kashmir in a plot to attack the national capital, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said the officers were on the forefront of the fight against terrorism.
"Cell (Special Cell) has always been on the forefront on fighting terrorism. Our officers have been taking a lot of risk for fighting terror. They have been doing a great job," Bassi told media persons.
On Saturday, NIA filed a charge sheet in the case of Liaquat Ali Shah -- arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell in March 2013 near the India-Nepal border -- stating that the evidence against Shah was not proved. The Cell had called him a terrorist coming from Pakistan to launch attacks in the national capital.
The charge sheet also said that the man who was allegedly responsible for planting a cache of arms in an old Delhi hotel had a temporary address at the Special Cell's Lodhi Colony office.
"I haven't seen the report yet. We will look into the assessment of the evidence. There can be difference of opinion on the evidence," Bassi added.
An elite unit of the Delhi Police specialised in counter-terror activity, the Special Cell claims to have busted several terror modules operating across the country.
