The T20 International series between India and South Africa is one of the few fixtures between the teams ahead of next year's T20 World Cup. India's wait for its first ICC title since 2013 continues and after the defeat in the ODI World Cup final, next year's T20 Cricket World Cup will be a great opportunity to end that drought. If the initial indications are anything to go by, then the BCCI selectors want to give maximum opportunities to the youth keeping in mind the T20 Cricket World Cup. The Indian T20 team that has been selected for the South Africa tour includes young stars like Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, and Tilak Verma. He will have a great opportunity to secure a place in the team for the World Cup.
Shubman and Rituraj's first choices for opening
During the team selection before the South African tour, there were reports that Rohit Sharma was asked to lead the team which is now being led by Suryakumar Yadav. However, the regular Indian captain asked for a break from the white ball leg of the tour. However, some media reports are saying that Rohit's name can be considered for the T20 Cricket World Cup. Before the opening T20 match between India and South Africa, when Sunil Gavaskar was asked about India's possible opening pair, he made an interesting comment. He said, 'Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad for this series. Yashasvi Jaiswal is also on the team. He has also performed well. If the team wants a combination of left hand and right hand, then Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal should open.
'Whether Rohit will play or not is a good problem to have'
He said, 'This is a very good problem for the team management. There is also Rohit Sharma who is waiting. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the T20 World Cup or not. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has praised 'Men in Blue' captain Rohit Sharma and said that he has done a great job during the ODI World Cup 2023. During a podcast interview, Gambhir said that India dominated the World Cup and played only one match poorly.
Gavaskar was angry when the match was canceled due to rain
The first T20 match between India and South Africa was washed out due to rain. Cricket South Africa (CSA) is set to earn over US$53 million, mainly from TV rights. CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki had said that the series against India will help the South African board in balancing. However, India did not get a good start to the South Africa tour due to rain in Durban and Gavaskar was unhappy with CSA's preparations for the first match of the series.
'They probably won't have as much money as BCCI'
Criticizing the South African Cricket Board, Gavaskar said – the entire cricket field was not covered even when it rained. If the field remains open and the rain stops then you know that the match will not start for another hour. In the meantime, if it suddenly starts raining again, then understand that no match will be held. Every cricket board is getting a lot of money. If they say they don't have money, they are lying. They probably don't have as much money as the BCCI, but every board has the money to buy these covers to cover the entire ground.
Gambhir also praised Rohit
Gambhir said, 'Rohit has done a very, very good job as captain. Winning five IPL trophies is not easy. The way India has dominated in the last 50-over World Cup and I had said the same before the World Cup final too... I said whatever the result, whatever the result after the World Cup, India will be a champion team. Played like.
Gambhir said, 'One bad match does not make Rohit Sharma or this team a bad team. 10 matches and the way they have dominated the entire tournament. If you call Rohit Sharma a bad captain just because of one bad match, then it is not fair. After 10 consecutive wins in the tournament, India lost to Australia in the final. The 42-year-old former opener said that if Rohit is in good form then he should lead the Indian team in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
