India is succeeding in establishing its presence in the world. The country is going to lead the presidency of Group of Twenty i.e. G-20 Conference 2023 in the G-20 countries conference in Bali, Indonesia. With this, it has become clear that the world not only listens to India's voice but also acts upon it. Proof of this is the acceptance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on the Ukraine war on Wednesday by the G-20 leaders.
In the joint manifesto of this conference, PM Modi's peace message was said as the basis, "Today's era should not be of war". Influential leaders from around the world gathered for this conference on the island of Bali. Here Prime Minister Modi represented the country in the current situation in such a way that this forum of 19 countries and the European Union was saved from conflict even on political differences. PM Modi left no stone unturned in Bali to showcase India's capabilities in a world grappling with geopolitical tensions. PM has brought many gifts for India from this conference which lasted for two days.
Indian Prime Minister's message became a resolution in G-20
This time the road to the G-20 summit held in Bali was not that easy. On this forum, the member countries were divided into two parts regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. On the other hand, the responsibilities of dealing with climate change and the Kovid-19 epidemic stood on the left. On the other hand, on Wednesday, November 17, the matter became more serious after a missile fell in NATO member country Poland.
The most important thing was to strike a balance between Russia and America present on this stage. There was a need for such a solution and consensus on this issue so that a middle way could be found in the conflict between the Russia-Ukraine war and PM Modi did it. Modi's message to Putin at G-20 was considered important. During 45 hours, PM Modi hardly left any leader present on the stage whom he did not meet.
At this conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping met US President Joe Biden. After this, PM Modi met Xi Jinping and talked to global leaders regarding the priorities of the presidency of the G-20 year 2023. After taking over the chairmanship of the G-20 from Indonesian President Joko Widodo, India gave a clear message that the G-20 conference to be held on the land of Buddha and Gandhi would give a message of peace to the world.
The message of peace but no compromise on energy needs
PM Modi's talk of peace, not war, may have been unanimously adopted at the G-20 Bali summit, but this forum could not succeed in resolving the serious differences between Russia-Ukraine. It is worth noting here that even after this, India remained a shadow at this conference. As India took over the chairmanship of the Group of Twenty from Indonesia, PM Modi left no stone unturned to showcase India's capabilities to a world reeling under geopolitical tensions in Bali.
He termed the country the "mother of democracy" and assured the major nations that India's G20 presidency would be decisive and forward-looking. On this forum, where there was an atmosphere of negativity about Russia regarding the Ukraine war, India said in very clear words that a diplomatic solution is the only way to solve the Russia-Ukraine issue.
India has made it clear that Russia has been its old friend and it will not support the campaigns being run by Western countries against Russia's oil and gas. Not only here, when all the countries were targeting Russia and the Ukrainian President was repeatedly calling G-20 G-19. Then India did not allow this forum to be divided on this issue.
G-7 members wanted to make Russia's Ukraine attack an issue. Because of this, a consensus could not be reached on the G-20 declaration. If India's Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra is to be believed, India played an important role in building a consensus on the G20 declaration. As a result, the countries involved in the forum agreed on India's message of peace instead of camp on Ukraine-Russia, and Modi's advice to Putin became important in the G-20 declaration.
India became the leader of global leadership
Knowledgeable people say that on this platform, India has emerged as a global leadership country to suggest a solution and build a consensus through its positive and constructive approach. Which helped to bridge the gap between Russia and the western countries led by America.
This was the reason why the G-20 leaders on Wednesday accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on the Ukraine war. In fact, in September, Modi had told Russian President Vladimir Putin during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan that "today is not an era of war".
Western countries highly appreciated this statement of Modi. In Bali, G-20 leaders called for an immediate end to the Ukraine conflict. The joint declaration issued after the G-20 summit states, "Peaceful resolution of conflicts, efforts to overcome crises, as well as diplomacy and critical dialogue.
Today's era should not be one of war." The G-20 joint statement said, "It is necessary to uphold international law and the multilateral system that protects peace and stability. It is not right to use the threat of using nuclear weapons."
Impact on the world's powerful economies
Significantly, the platform of G-20 is not an ordinary platform. It represents 85 percent of the world's gross domestic product and more than 75 percent of trade. About two-thirds of the world's population is in this group. The heads of two powerful economies of the world met each other on this platform.
During this, US President Joe Biden met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G-20, this was his first face-to-face conversation as the leaders of the two countries. Both Presidents talked for about three hours. Amid strained relations between the two countries, this conversation is being seen as a step to improve them. Taiwan dominated the talks of both leaders. The two leaders called for "peace and stability" in the Taiwan Strait.
The two men are in a stronger negotiating position than ever after the Democratic Party's better-than-expected performance in the midterm elections in the United States strengthened Joe Biden and Xi was elected China's supreme leader for the third time. During this, PM Modi met Xi Jinping after the ongoing dispute on Galwan, many meanings are being extracted from this meeting.
(PM Modi meeting world leaders at G-20 summit)
This was probably one of the most spectacular pictures of the summit. When Xi Jinping and Modi met on the stage of the G-20. Because these two leaders met at least 18 times between 2014 and 2019. This time they met after two years. In their first meeting in public since the India-China border standoff began in 2020, Prime Minister Modi and President Xi shook hands and spoke to each other.
However, the photographs, which were caught on camera at the summit dinner, did not contain any concrete details of the conversation. According to sources, the two leaders "received a courtesy call at the end of dinner". The last time Modi and Xi were seen interacting publicly was in Brazil in November 2019 on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
In October 2019, Xi visited India for an informal summit in Mahabalipuram. In September this year, the two leaders attended the SCO summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, but there was no picture or statement about their meeting then.
first international summit
India has got the chairmanship of G20. India will officially take over the presidency on 1 December 2022. The country is organizing an international summit of this scale for the first time. The President of Indonesia handed over the responsibility to the Indian Prime Minister as the next chairman of the group.
New Delhi will host the G20 leaders for the summit on September 9 and 10, 2023. PM Modi said that environment, women-led development, peace and security, economic development, and technological innovation will be priorities during the presidency of G-20. He said that India is taking it as "one earth, one family, one future".
Earlier, Modi had said on 15 November that the Covid pandemic, climate change, and the Ukraine conflict have together created "havoc in the world". This has ruined the supply chain and created a "crisis of essentials". PM Modi also said that the poor are facing a more serious crisis. He advised the world to work in new ways after the Kovid epidemic to deal with it.
build warm relationships
India used the G-20 summit platform as a way to enhance global relations. PM Modi understands the importance of these relations very well. This was the reason why he warmly met US President Joe Biden and also held meetings with other world leaders.
During these meetings, talks were held with America on new technology, and artificial intelligence and with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on partnerships in areas like economics and defense. Issues of defense, atomic energy, trade, and food security were important in talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, while Modi's meeting with British PM Rishi Sunak also saw warmth.
To strengthen these relations, Prime Minister Modi also gave gifts to the leaders of many countries sharing India's cultural heritage. Modi also did not forget to meet the NRIs in Bali. He also invited the people of Indian origin who settled in this country to visit the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which is going to be held in January in the year 2023.
