Actor-turned-politician Vijay is in the news regarding his last film, 'Jan Nayakan'. After facing disappointment at the Madras High Court, the film's makers approached the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition and ordered the makers to return to the High Court.
The makers of 'Jan Nayakan' had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a hearing. However, the Supreme Court ordered that the hearing continue in the Madras High Court.
The film was scheduled for release on January 9th, but the release has been postponed due to the lack of approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
What did the Supreme Court say?
Dismissing the film makers' petition, the Supreme Court said that the Madras High Court will hear the matter on January 20th. The Supreme Court reprimanded the filmmakers, saying, "We are not inclined to hear this matter."
Representing the makers in the Supreme Court, Advocate Mukul Rohatgi said, "The film was supposed to be released on January 9th. We had secured 5000 theaters across India. We were told that we would get the certificate after 10 cuts."
To this, the Supreme Court said, "If the matter is pending in the High Court and a hearing date has been given for January 20th, you should not have challenged it in the Supreme Court. Go back to the High Court."
What is the whole matter?
Last year, actor Vijay founded his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). 'Jan Nayakan' is being called Vijay's last film, which was scheduled for release on January 9, 2025. The film was presented to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 18th. The CBFC objected to several scenes in the film and suggested 27 cuts.
The film's producers had filed a petition in the Madras High Court. On January 9, a single-judge bench of the High Court ordered that the film be granted a U/A certificate. Following this, the CBFC filed an appeal against the decision, and the Madras High Court stayed the order. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 20.
