On the lines of JEE and NEET to be conducted for admission in engineering and medical education institutions, students will now be admitted to all central universities across the country through a joint entrance examination. This arrangement will be applicable from the new academic session (the year 2022-23). The Ministry of Education has entrusted this responsibility to the National Testing Agency (NTA). At present, the new system will be applicable only on admission to undergraduate courses.
Education Ministry bluntly
After the recommendation of the new National Education Policy, the Ministry of Education had made preparations to adopt this system only last year, but at the last moment all the major central universities including Delhi University (DU) gave up. Due to this, the ministry had said to consider it in the new academic session, deferring its decision. Now the Ministry of Education has made it clear that the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) will be conducted from the new academic session itself.
new arrangement agreed
Most of the major central universities, including Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, and Allahabad University, have agreed to the new arrangement. There are around 50 central universities in the country and at present, all conduct different entrance examinations. The Ministry of Education believes that the Joint Entrance Examination will bring huge relief to the students. This will not only save their time but also reduce the financial burden. Due to the integrated system, universities will also be freed from the burden of conducting entrance exams.
big relief to students
According to the Ministry of Education, conducting a joint entrance examination for admission in central universities will bring great relief to students across the country. This will not only save their time but will also not cost them financially. Which now falls during the application of admission to many universities. Along with this, all universities and colleges will also get freedom from the heavy burden of entrance examinations.
State universities will also be added soon
According to a senior NTA official, at present, the scope of CUET has been restricted to admission in central universities only, but in the future, it will be extended to state universities as well. In the coming days, talks will be held with the states. This arrangement is also suitable for them. They will not have to exercise separately for admission, but based on the merit of CUET, they will be able to give admission to their universities. This will be similar to the way most states admit to their medical and engineering colleges based on merit in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Both the entrance exams are conducted by NTA.
