Delhi Police has registered the first case against animal lovers who protested against the Supreme Court's order to free Delhi's streets from stray dogs.
This case has been registered at Tilak Marg police station under BNS 223A against unknown protesters for protesting without permission.
Immediately after the Supreme Court's order, on Monday, more than 100 protesters from Delhi-NCR protested at India Gate.
The police first detained them and released them after a few hours. In a new development on Tuesday, a case has also been registered for protesting in a restricted area without permission.
Along with registering the case, the police have also started identifying the protesters at India Gate. For this, CCTV and photo-video footage is being used.
Animal lovers can get this punishment.
Under BNS 223A, if an act done without permission endangers human life, health, or safety, causes riot or assault, the punishment can be imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to five thousand rupees, or both. In other cases, the punishment can be imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to Rs 2,500, or both.
