The Federation of All India Medical Association (FIMA) has announced the closure of OPD services across the country today i.e. on 13th August. The call has been given to close OPD services in protest against the rape harassment and murder of a female trainee doctor on 9th August at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
Letter written to Union Health Minister
Amidst the ongoing protests across the country after the murder of a female doctor in Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association has written a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The case of rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has gained momentum. In this regard, the Indian Medical Association has placed its three major demands on the West Bengal State Government through a letter. IMA has written a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda demanding a detailed investigation of the conditions that made the crime possible and taking steps to improve the safety of doctors, especially women, at the workplace.

Junior doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday questioned why West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has set a seven-day deadline to solve the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor. They said that they will continue their strike until their demands are met.
What are the three main demands of the Indian Medical Association?
The IMA has made the following demands from the West Bengal state government, in which the first demand is, that there should be a fair investigation of the case and the culprits should be punished. The second demand is, that there should be a detailed investigation of the circumstances that made the crime possible. The third demand is, that immediate steps should be taken to improve the safety of doctors, especially women, at the workplace.

The brutality with the junior doctor in RG Kar Medical College Hospital was revealed on Friday morning, when her body was recovered in a semi-nake state from the seminar hall on the fourth floor of the medical college. The mobile phone and laptop of the deceased were also recovered from the spot. At the same time, the initial postmortem report has revealed that the female doctor was raped. The body of the junior female doctor was lying on the mattress and blood stains were also found on the mattress.
