'Any change in the law is not good for the religious fabric', Congress reached the Supreme Court in support of the Places of Worship Act.

The Congress party has reached the Supreme Court in support of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act 1991. The Congress has filed an intervention petition through organization general secretary KC Venugopal, opposing the petition challenging the provisions of the Places of Worship Act and has requested an opportunity to present its side in the matter.

 

Ashwani Upadhyay first filed the petition.

The Supreme Court will hear all the petitions related to the Places of Worship Act on February 17. The petition was first filed in the Supreme Court by lawyer Ashwani Kumar Upadhyay in 2020, challenging the legality of various provisions of the Places of Worship Act, sections two, three, and four. After this, many more petitions were filed, challenging the law and demanding its repeal.

 

Owaisi also filed a petition.

Later, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind filed a petition supporting the law and demanding its implementation. Apart from Jamiat, Asaduddin Owaisi and many others also filed intervention petitions in which the law has been supported.

 

Congress in support of the law

The Supreme Court, considering the issue important, had said that all the petitions would be heard together and fixed the date of February 17. Now Congress has also reached the Supreme Court and Congress has also opposed the petition of Ashwani Upadhyay while supporting the law.

 

Necessary to save secularism.

The Congress has said in the petition that the party was in power when this law was passed. This law was already a part of the Congress manifesto in the Lok Sabha elections. It is said that this law is very necessary to save secularism in India. The petition challenging the law seems motivated and purposeful. Congress has said that it should be allowed to intervene in the matter so that it can explain the constitutional and social importance of this law.

 

The change will harm the religious fabric.

The Congress has also said that any change in this law may be detrimental to the social harmony and religious fabric of India and will be a threat to the unity and integrity of the nation. Therefore, it opposes the petition challenging the law.
