Kolkata, April 11 (IANS) More than double the number of police observers deployed in the 2009 Lok Sabha election will be deputed in West Bengal for the coming polls, an Election Commission official said Friday.
As many as 17 police observers (POs) will be appointed for the 42 parliamentary constituencies in the state, officer on special duty Amit Roy Choudhary told reporters here today.
"This is a significant increase from the 8 police observers deputed in 2009," he said, adding this will "ensure 100 percent coverage of the constituencies".
In addition, pre-certification for comments made by individuals, candidates and political party workers on social media will not be required.
