Bholaa Movie Review: Ajay Devgan starrer 'Drishyam' was also a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. Last year the sequel of this film was successful at the box office. Ajay Devgan is the producer and director of Bhola, the Hindi remake of the Tamil film 'Kaithi' now released in theatres.
He is also the hero of the film. In remake films, the director's originality remains so much that he stays close to the original and can capitalize on its popularity. Along with changing the background of the story in 'Bhola', he has made radical changes. For example, the SP police officer has been made a woman instead of a man. Here that character is played by Tabu. Apart from that, the character of Amala Paul has been added.
What is the story of 'Bhola'?
The story begins with the scene in that SP Diana (Tabu) along with her colleagues is chasing a truck loaded with cocaine. They are successful in catching the truck. The cost of this cocaine is more than one thousand crore rupees. During this operation, Diana also gets shot in the shoulder.
She arrests seven men with a stash of cocaine. Five policemen including Diana carry out this mission. Diana hides the cocaine in a bunker built in the Lalganj police station. Built during the British era, this jail is a very strong stone building. The British would have built a bunker below it for their safety.
It is impossible to break into that building. No one is aware of his intelligence route. Diana's boss (KIRAN KUMAR) tells her that the information must remain a secret until the court takes custody of the goods. After that, during the boss's party, a policeman mixes drugs in the liquor, due to which all the policemen present there faint.
Diana doesn't consume it, so she survives. In a dramatic turn of events, she sets out to take all the policemen to the hospital in a truck with the help of Bhola (Ajay Devgan). She also brings Karchi (Amir Khan), a caterer, along with her. The layers of Bhola's life unfold.
After serving ten years in jail, Bhola is going to Lucknow to meet his daughter who is growing up in an orphanage. On the other hand, realizing the danger, the policemen present in the police station run away. Meanwhile, constable Angad Yadav (Sanjay Mishra), who got transferred, happens to be there. There are four students including a girl already presents there with him. Deep Singh (Lokesh Mittal), the policeman present in Diana's location truck, is giving it to the drug mafia.
Nithari (Vineet Singh) is behind the cocaine smuggling, which no one has seen. Her brother Anshu (Deepak Dobriyal) announces Rs 10 crore to catch Diana. In the greed of reward, many gangs use all their strength to catch him. What kind of difficulties do Diana and Bhola face in reaching Lalganj? Will the mafia be able to get hold of the cocaine stash? The story is about this.
How are the screenplay and action of 'Bhola'?
The story is of one night. There is a lot of action in it. VFX has also been used a lot. There is an amazing action scene before the interval with Bhola, Diana, and Karchi and a mutual encounter with the mafia gang. The circumstances of the action scenes have been kept the same as in the original film, but the visuals have been changed.
Choreographed by action director Ramzan Bulut, and RP Yadav, the clash between the mafia gangs and Bhola, the lone policeman present at the police station and the students taking on Anshu give goosebumps. In terms of action, Ajay Devgn and Tabu have to be commended for putting in the necessary effort for their roles.
It's thrilling to see Diana take on the mafia despite being injured. Here Ajay's backstory has been changed from the original story. As such, many questions remain unanswered. For example, when and how did his wife leave, whereas in the original film, it is all clear?
The film does not talk anywhere about the damage that can be caused by such a huge smuggling of cocaine. Bhola is described as a devotee of Shiva, but the story does not try to establish him.
Ajay Devgan is frozen in action scenes. This is also his specialty. In this film, he is also shown as a yearning father. He understood the pain of the character and brought it out in his acting. However, his concern for his daughter's future is limited in the story.
There is a lack of emotion in the scene of the father-daughter meeting in the climax. Due to the sling being tied in one hand, Tabu wins hearts while doing the action at some places. She gets emotional in emotional scenes. It refers to killing Diana's child in the womb, whereas in the original film, it is the policeman's daughter.
How is the performance of the cast of Bhola?
Amala Paul makes a guest appearance as Ajay's wife. There is a glimpse of actress Deepika Padukone in her. She is looking beautiful. However, not a single dialogue has come from his part. Nithari has been described as very scary, and Vineet Kumar has appeared in it. Deepak Dobriyal is impressive in the role of ruthless drug addict Ashu.
This is the specialty of the character, which Deepak has brought alive in his style. In the role of a corrupt officer, Gajraj Rao has done justice to his character. Cinematographer Aseem Bajaj has worked meticulously on every frame. Especially the scene of Aarti in Banaras is remembered.
