Kolkata: The West Bengal government has suffered a major setback. The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into the post-poll violence case. Along with this, the court has also directed the formation of SIT team and asked the state government to pay compensation to the victims.
The Calcutta High Court has ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into allegations of human rights violations, including rape, murder, and crimes against women, in cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal. The High Court has handed over the investigation of all other cases to the SIT.

The bench said that the SIT will also be monitored by the court. Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, who is hearing the case, said there are different decisions but everyone agrees. Several PILs were filed before the court alleging that in the post-election violence people were thrashed, forced to run away from home and their property was destroyed and these allegations A fair investigation was demanded.
The hearing in the matter was completed on August 3 and the High Court had reserved the order. A five-judge bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal delivered the verdict. In which Justices IP Mukherjee, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen, and Subrata Talukdar were included. The bench had earlier ordered the NHRC chairperson to constitute an inquiry committee to inquire into the allegations of human rights violations during the "post-poll violence". After submitting the report, now the next hearing will be held on October 24.
