Brahmos missile agreement to be signed in a few months

Next year India and the Philippines are about to sign the agreement under which the Philippines will buy BrahMos missiles from India. Next year's summit will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte. BrahMos missiles are jointly produced by India-Russia.

 

Sources familiar with the matter told the associate newspaper Hindustan Times on Thursday that the deal for the supply of missiles to the Philippines military for the first time by a team from BrahMos Aerospace, a New Delhi-based Indo-Russian joint venture that produces weapons systems K is expected to visit Manila in December to resolve some of the remaining issues.

At the same time, the defense cooperation and procurement agreement was expected to be signed in a virtual meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his counterpart Tayodoro Locksin on November 6 between India and the Philippines. This would have included the agreement of BrahMos missiles, but this could not happen. However, the said sources said that the signature could not be done due to formality. Signing officers were not available and this was a formality.

 

The associate newspaper Hindustan Times had informed in December last year that the Philippines was going to be the country to buy BrahMos missiles. Both sides had been engaged in finalizing the agreement since the beginning of the year, but the agreement was affected due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Russia's Deputy Chief Mission Roman Babuskin said on Thursday that India and Russia are gradually starting to increase BrahMos and export missiles to third countries. It starts with the Philippines.
