India-China Border Dispute: China's new Foreign Minister Qin Gang has expressed his desire to improve relations with India. Before replacing Wang Yi, Qin referred to the India-China border dispute in an article written in the American magazine The National Interest. In the article titled 'The world through the eyes of China', Qin said, "Both sides are willing to ease tensions and restore peace on the border."
17 rounds of military commander-level talks
There is tension between the two countries regarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Galvan Valley and Pangong Lake. In the east, there was a recent skirmish between the armies of the two countries near Tawang. There have been 17 rounds of military commander-level talks between India and China to reduce the tension on the border. In the last round of meeting on December 20, China agreed to restore security and stability in the western sector.
Meanwhile, Qin accused the US of provoking Taiwan and Japan against China and tampering with the status quo in the South China Sea. "China's development is the firm face of peacekeeping, not a violation of the status quo, as some are doing," he said.
Blinken and Qin discuss US-China relations
According to Reuters, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he had a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang on Sunday. Qin, who was China's ambassador to the US, was appointed foreign minister on 30 December. Blinken said on Twitter that he emphasized strengthening US-China relations and continuing dialogue in his talks with Qin.
