Five years have passed since the clash between the armies of India and China in the Galwan Valley, and now both countries are trying to bring the relations back on track. This development is happening at a time when the US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods. In this episode, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi came to India, and on Monday, he held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. His visit is considered an important step towards improving relations between these two Asian powers. Both countries want to counter the global instability created by the US tariff war.
In the meeting, Jaishankar said that this visit of Wang Yi is a good opportunity to review bilateral relations. He said, Our relations have seen a difficult phase, but now we want to move forward. For this, an honest and constructive attitude is necessary from both sides. Jaishankar further said, we should move forward on the basis of mutual respect, sensitivity, and mutual interests. Differences should not be allowed to become disputes, and competition should not be allowed to take the form of conflict. Later, he said that the talks between the two countries will include topics such as economic and trade issues, religious travel, people-to-people contact, sharing of river-related data, border trade, connectivity, and bilateral exchanges.
Jaishankar said, any positive progress in our relations is possible only when we together maintain peace in the border areas. It is also necessary to take forward the process of removal of troops from the border (de-escalation). The Foreign Minister said, when the two largest countries in the world meet, it is natural to talk on the international scene. We talk of a fair, balanced, and multipolar world order, in which Asia is also multipolar. At this time, it is very important to maintain stability in the global economy.
He also said that India hopes that this discussion will lead to a stable, cooperative, and future-looking India-China partnership, which serves the interests of both countries and addresses their concerns.
According to sources, China has assured to address India's three main concerns (fertilizer, rare minerals, and tunnel boring machine). Of all these, rare minerals are the most important, as they are used in the manufacture of smartphones and modern military equipment. Most of these are produced in China.
