Chirag Paswan is a great story of political transformation in Bihar and national politics. After the death of father Ram Vilas Paswan in 2020, the party contested assembly elections in Bihar for the first time under the leadership of Chirag. In the election, Chirag targeted Janata Dal United (JDU) and Nitish Kumar.
Chirag also took the party out of NDA. Even though the party won only one seat in the results. A few months after the results, there was a split in LJP and in early 2021, Chirag's uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras joined the Modi government with four out of six MPs. Chirag reached a kind of political oblivion, where he was not only out of NDA, but the party's election symbol also went to the Paras faction. Chirag directly blamed Nitish and JDU for splitting his party. At that time, the BJP also did not help Chirag due to political mathematics.
Modi declared him Hanuman
Despite all the failures, Chirag reiterated his loyalty to Narendra Modi and declared himself as Narendra Modi's Hanuman. This is the reason why the BJP never closed its doors for Chirag and kept him happy. Meanwhile, Chirag entered the fray with his Ashirvad Yatra in Bihar and showed that Dalit voters consider him the true heir of Ram Vilas Paswan. When Prime Minister Modi wrote a touching letter to Chirag on Paswan's first death anniversary, the doors of NDA once again opened for him.
Proved to be a mature leader
Although many argue that Chirag controls only 5 percent of Paswan community votes in Bihar, he won all the five seats that came to his party's share and also ensured that Dalit votes were also received in other seats in the state where NDA candidates were in the fray and thus proved to be a mature politician. He defeated Shivchandra Ram of Lalu Yadav's RJD by 1.7 lakh votes in his seat. Apart from this, the analysis of the 2020 assembly elections shows that Chirag caused a lot of damage to BJP and JDU in 54 seats. Due to this, JDU was able to win only 43 out of 70 seats. In this way, Chirag had proved that he was capable of causing a big upset in Bihar politics.
