A flood-like situation has arisen after a cloud burst in Singtam, Sikkim. State Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has taken stock of the situation. According to the information received, a sudden cloud burst on Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim caused sudden flooding in the Teesta River of Lachen Valley. Officials present at the spot said that the flood started around 1.30 in the night.
Giving information, the Defense PRO of Guwahati said that due to a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim, there was a flood in the Teesta River of Lachen Valley. Some army personnel have been affected in the valley. There are reports of 23 army personnel missing and some vehicles of the soldiers drowning in the mud. The search operation is still going on.
Defense PRO said that the incident occurred due to the release of water from Chungthang Dam as the water level downstream suddenly rose to a height of 15-20 feet. Due to this, army vehicles parked at Bardang near Singtam are being affected.
