Congress: 'Until you change your stance...'; Muralidharan takes a dig at Tharoor's recent statement

Senior Congress leader K. Muralidharan on Sunday once again targeted his party leader Shashi Tharoor. He said that until Tharoor changes his stand on national security, he will not be invited to any Congress program in Thiruvananthapuram.

 

Muraleedharan said that Tharoor, who is a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), is no longer considered a part of the party. He said that the national leadership of the party will decide what action to take against Tharoor. Muralidharan said, 'Until he (Tharoor) changes his stand, we will not invite him to any party program organized in Thiruvananthapuram. He is not with us, so there is no question of boycotting any of his programs.'

 

Journalists sought the opinion from Muralidharan on Tharoor's statement.

 

Muraleedharan said this when journalists sought his opinion on Tharoor's statement in which Tharoor had said that he will stick to his stand on national security. Tharoor had said a day earlier that the nation is supreme, and political parties are only a means to make the country better.

Congress MP Tharoor had also said that many people are criticizing him strongly due to his stand of supporting the armed forces and the central government about what happened recently in the country and its borders. At an event in Kochi on Saturday, he had said, "But I will stick to my stand, because I believe this is right for the country." Tharoor had also said that when people like him call for cooperation with other parties in the interest of national security, their parties feel that it is a betrayal of them, and this becomes a big problem.

 

Muraleedharan had also criticized Tharoor over a survey.

 

Earlier, Muraleedharan had also criticized Tharoor over a survey, in which Tharoor was declared the most favorite for the post of Chief Minister. Muralidharan had said, 'He should first decide which party he belongs to.' Muralidharan's displeasure has come to the fore at a time when differences have increased between the top leaders of the Congress party and Tharoor over his reaction after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Some leaders of the Congress party believe that due to some of Tharoor's comments, the party had to clarify, and it came under pressure.

 

Tharoor was also attacked for criticizing Indira Gandhi.

 

Apart from this, when Tharoor criticized Indira Gandhi for the period of Emergency in a Malayalam newspaper, Muralidharan had also attacked him. Muralidharan had urged the Congress Working Committee member that if he feels limited within the Congress, then he should select a clear political path.
