New Delhi
There has been a change in the policy of discharging corona virus infected patients after recovery. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) released the new policy on Saturday morning. Under the new changes, the requirement of testing before discharge in light cases has been eliminated. One can be discharged from the hospital within 10 days if no symptoms are seen in the patient and the condition seems normal. After discharge, the patient will now have to stay in home isolation for 7 days instead of 14 days. The patient will be followed-up on the 14th day through a tele-conference.
This arrangement for asymptomatic cases
Patients with no / very mild corona symptoms will be placed in the Covid Care facility. Where they will have to undergo regular temperature check and pulse oxygen monitoring. If fever is not present for 3 days, the patient can be discharged after 10 days. No testing will be required before that. At discharge, the patient will be asked to stay in home isolation for 7 days. Before discharge, the patient will be taken to the Dedicated Covid Health Center (CDC) if the oxygen saturation drops below 95%.
Moderate cases will be admitted directly to Oxygen Beds
Patients with slightly severe symptoms will be placed on oxygen beds at the dedicated Covid Health Center. They will have to undergo body temperature and oxygen saturation checks. If the fever subsides in 3 days and the patient's level of saturation remains above 95% for the next 4 days, then the patient can be released after 10 days. But there should be no need for fever, trouble in breathing and oxygen. Such patients will not have to undergo testing before discharge.
New guidelines for serious patients
Patients who are on oxygen support will be discharged only after clinical symptoms are removed. Only patients who maintain oxygen saturation for 3 consecutive days will be discharged. Apart from this, patients with HIV patients and other serious diseases will be discharged only after negative recovery in clinical recovery and RT-PCR test.
What to do after being discharged?
The patient must remain in home isolation for 7 days after being discharged. If symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath develop, the patient will have to contact Covid Care Center or State Helpline or 1075. The follow-up of the patient will be done through tele-conference on the 14th day.
