Apart from tariffs, US President Donald Trump is also in the news for his comments on India's economy. He adopted a strategy to put pressure on India and Russia by calling it a 'dead economy'. However, now he has postponed the decision on the proposed 25 percent tariff on India for a week. Meanwhile, due to the statement on the dead economy, Trump has come under the target of many political parties in India. Reacting to his statement, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also agreed with the US President. However, many other MPs have shown the mirror to the US President and said that India does not need his comments and advice.
What is Trump's comment, and Rahul Gandhi's stand on this
In his statement calling India's economy dead, Trump also said that it does not matter to him what kind of bilateral trade Russia and India do. Trump has said that he will also impose a penalty on India for trading with Russia, along with a 25 percent tariff. Many opposition political parties called Trump's statement a failure of the government's foreign policy. However, while answering a question in the Parliament premises, Rahul Gandhi said, India's economy is dead. If someone says so, then no one should be surprised. He also termed Trump's comment a failure of the government's economic, foreign, and defense policy.
Rahul, who agreed with Trump, did not get the support of other Congress MPs.
After Rahul Gandhi's reaction, when senior MPs of his party were questioned about Trump's comment, they gave a completely different opinion from that of the Congress MP. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, elected from Kerala, said in this regard, 'Trade talks between America and India are challenging. We are negotiating with many countries. America is not the only country with which negotiations are going on. We are also negotiating with the European Union, and we have reached an agreement with Britain. We are also negotiating with other countries. If we cannot compete in America, we may have to diversify our markets outside America. We have no choice.'
We should also be ready to not deal with America.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said about India's foreign and economic policy, If America adopts a strategy of creating pressure based on its unreasonable demands, then we will have to go somewhere else. This is India's strength; we are not a completely export-dependent economy like China. We have a good and strong domestic market. On the aspect of trade talks, Tharoor said, 'Those involved in this should strongly support us for the best deal. If a good deal is not possible, we may have to back down.'
Rajeev Shukla said - Trump's comment on the India-Russia economy is wrong.
On Trump's comment on the dead economy, another Congress MP, Rajiv Shukla, said, The US President's statement that the economies of India and Russia are dead is completely wrong. The Indian economy is not dead. He said that economic reforms were done during the tenure of PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee took those reforms forward.
The current government also worked on the economic front.
Rajiv Shukla, who was a minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, referring to the period between 2004 and 2024, said, The economy also strengthened in these 10 years. The current government has also worked on it. Our economic condition is not weak at all.
Trump's comment against trade and imports from Russia is wrong.
He said that if someone claims that he can destroy us economically, it may be due to a misunderstanding. Trump is living in an illusion. It is wrong to impose tariffs. Every country has the right to trade as it wishes. It is not right to impose restrictions on them, speak against the group of BRICS countries, or comment against trade and imports from Russia.
Female Shiv Sena MP said - Comments like 'dead economy' are based on ignorance and arrogance.
On Trump's comment, Shiv Sena UBT's female MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, There is no need for the US President to say so. The Indian economy is among the top 5 economies of the world. We are counted among the fastest-growing economies. There is enough and valid data available to prove this. Calling it a dead economy is only possible due to arrogance or ignorance.
One of the Congress leaders spoke in the interest of India.
Another politician and former Tamil Nadu BJP president, K Annamalai, commented on the statements of Rahul and Tharoor. He said, 'Today I got to read the comments of two Congress leaders on the same subject. One spoke in the interest of India, and the other spoke in a tone that could please his foreign masters.'
Rahul Gandhi wears ignorance as a badge of honour.
According to Annamalai, 'Today, when the world is accepting India as the only bright point on the dark horizon, the opinion of an opposition leader is the opposite. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has been wearing ignorance as a badge of honour.' Taking the Congress MP to task, the BJP leader said, they are always eager to repeat the foreign voices that ignore India's rise and weaken it.
