New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) In view of the Republic Day celebrations with US President Barack Obama as the chief guest and the forthcoming assembly election, the Delhi Police Friday held a meeting with the northern states police officials. This was for strengthening cooperation between the police forces to ensure security in the national capital.
The meeting, addressed by Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi, was attended by senior police officers of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Aiming to evolve an inter-state mechanism to deal with terror threats, Bassi stressed on increasing police presence, intensive checking at vulnerable places, tenant verification, guest house checking and sensitisation of cyber cafe owners.
Second hand car dealers, transporters, property dealers, cycle sellers, chemical dealers and STD/ISTD PCO booth owners will also be sensitised for fool proof security.
A strict watch would also be kept on para-gliders and microlight aircraft.
Delhi Police requested their counterparts to share information on visits of protected people.
It was also decided that Delhi Police would exchange information about inter-state crimes and organise joint combing operations in border areas.
Besides, joint action would be taken against notorious inter-state criminals.
In view of Republic Day, the officials also discussed traffic management in the border areas.
Security related issues related to the Feb 7 Delhi assembly election were also discussed at the meeting.
The meeting ended with a resolution to have a more coordinated approach in policing in order to provide a more secure environment to the citizens of Delhi and the neighbouring areas.
