The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNSCR) has said that today completes five years of the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar. On this day five years ago, more than seven lakh Rohingya Muslims took refuge in Bangladesh after being tortured by military persecution in Myanmar.

 

UNHCR spokeswoman Shabia Mantu told reporters at a regular press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday: "The recent developments in the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar show that this is a situation that continues even after such a long time." .'

 

Bangladesh becomes the world's largest refugee camp

 

According to the UN News report, since the start of this humanitarian crisis, the Bangladesh government, in collaboration with many local communities and aid agencies, not only sheltered the refugees but also helped them. Alam is that the Cox's Bazar area here has now been transformed into the world's largest refugee camp.

 

Many Rohingya Muslims living in refugee camps are still expressing their desire to return to their homes in Myanmar, sharing their pain with the UNHCR.

 

However, for this, it is very important to have a safe environment so that they can also taste the freedom to move anywhere and do not have to be deprived of documentation and citizenship. Rohingya Muslims also want to contribute to the services and they also want to be involved in economic activities.

 

Victims of violence still happening today

 

Today about one million Rohingya refugees are living in Bangladesh. In such a situation, a very congested situation has arisen in Bangladesh and they are completely dependent on humanitarian aid for their livelihood.

 

The spokesperson also referred to incidents of violence against women, children, and people with mental and physical disabilities, which often do not reach the administration. In such a situation, activities to create more opportunities for education, skill development, and livelihood should be done rapidly.

The agency called for further investment to ensure that refugees can benefit from skill development, including vocational training and other forms of capacity building for adolescent and adult refugees.

 

According to UNHCR, US$881 million is needed for this year's response plan, but only US$426.2 million has been received so far.

 

The international community must do more to ensure that the displacement of Rohingya Muslims does not continue. They need to keep trying more and more to get a better environment.
