Indore (Madhya Pradesh), March 29 (IANS) The central government will try to build consensus on banning cow slaughter, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Sunday.
Cow slaughter has always been against the principles of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and that was why the BJP-led government will try to discuss the issue with all parties concerned, Rajnath Singh said during an event organised by the Shwetambar Jain Samaj.
Giving the example of Madhya Pradesh, he said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had banned cow slaughter in the state a long time back.
Rajnath Singh said Jainism believed in ahimsa, and it has always had a deep influence on India's culture.
World peace can only be attained and terrorism vanquished by following the path of ahimsa, he said.
