Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit after his visit to Thailand. He was given a grand welcome in the country's capital, Colombo. On Saturday morning, a guard of honour was given to him.
When PM Modi arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday evening, five ministers of the Sri Lankan government were present to receive him. A large number of people from the Indian community were also present at the airport, and they constantly raised slogans of Modi-Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a grand welcome at Colombo's Independence Square on Friday. He also met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This three-day visit has been made to strengthen regional relations and increase development cooperation.
Official welcome and cultural program
Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed on his arrival in Sri Lanka. He also witnessed a puppet dance program while shaking hands with members of the Indian community at the hotel. This welcome reflects the strong cultural and public relations ties between the two countries.
PM Modi's visit to Colombo comes after he visited Thailand, where he held a bilateral meeting with Thai PM Patongtorn Shinawatra and attended the BIMSTEC Summit.
Welcome by Sri Lankan Ministers
Despite the rain, six high-level Sri Lankan ministers arrived at the airport to receive PM Modi. These included Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Health and Mass Communication Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, Labour Minister Anil Jayantha, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, Women and Child Welfare Minister Saroja Paulraj and Science and Technology Minister Krishantha Abeysena.
"Reaching Colombo. Grateful to the Ministers and dignitaries who welcomed me at the airport. Looking forward to the activities in Sri Lanka," PM Modi wrote on Twitter.
Inauguration of Development Projects
During his stay, PM Modi will visit Anuradhapura, where he will inaugurate development projects funded by India. He will also meet President Dissanayake to review progress under "Fostering Partnership for a Shared Future".
