Highlights of the Delhi Budget: Announcement of Laptops for Meritorious Class 10 Students and Free Bicycles for Class 9 Girls

The Delhi Government has presented a budget of ₹1,03,700 crore for the financial year 2026-27. In addition to development works, the budget places a special focus on pollution, as well as on women and the youth. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that free bicycles will be provided to 1.30 lakh female students of Class 9 studying in Delhi Government schools. An allocation of ₹90 crore has been made for this scheme. Furthermore, the provision of laptops to meritorious students of Class 10 has also been announced.

 

**₹50 Crore Fund for Women's Safety**

The Delhi Government has prioritized women's safety in its budget. A special fund of ₹50 crore has been allocated for this purpose. The government will identify dark spots across the city; new lights and sensors will be installed at these locations. These lighting systems will be modernized.

 

**Laptops for Meritorious Class 10 Students**

 

CM Rekha Gupta has also made significant announcements regarding students in the budget. The CM has announced that laptops will be provided to meritorious students of Class 10. A budgetary provision of ₹10 crore has been made for this initiative.

 

**Transgender Community Brought Under the Ambit of Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme**

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government will allocate ₹202 crore to bring the transgender community under the coverage of the Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme. The Delhi Government will also allocate ₹1,500 crore for the establishment of 750 new 'Ayushman Arogya Mandirs' (Health Centers). Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that seven ICU hospitals, which were left unfinished by the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, will be completed at a cost of ₹150 crore.

 

**₹12,645 Crore Provision for Healthcare**

 

In the Delhi Government's budget for 2026-27, an allocation of ₹12,645 crore has been made for the healthcare sector.

 

**₹610 Crore to Address Waterlogging**

 

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi Government is making tireless efforts to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season. An allocation of ₹610 crore has been made to the Irrigation Department for this purpose. ₹9,000 Crore for the Delhi Jal Board

 

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, ₹9,000 crore has been allocated to the Delhi Jal Board in the Delhi government's budget.

 

₹3,942 Crore for the Power Department

 

In the Delhi budget, ₹3,942 crore has been allocated to the Power Department. While presenting the budget for the financial year 2027, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government has allocated ₹674 crore for the Fire Department.

 

₹1,000 Crore for MCD for Road Improvement

 

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta—who made the announcement while presenting the budget for the financial year 2027—₹1,000 crore will be made available to the MCD for road improvement in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta further stated that ₹1,352 crore has been allocated in the budget to the PWD for "dust-free roads." The Delhi government has allocated ₹454 crore in the budget for roads along the Najafgarh Drain. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government's budget includes an allocation of ₹350 crore for the MLA Local Area Development Scheme.
