
Exercising its powers under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging obscenity and indecency in the song ‘Sarke Chunariya Teri Sarke’.
In connection with this matter, the Commission has issued summonses requiring actress Nora Fatehi, Rakib Alam, actor Sanjay Dutt, Venkat K. Narayan (Producer, KVN Group), and Kiran Kumar (Director) to appear before the Commission.
National Commission for Women Takes Cognizance
The National Commission for Women shared this information by posting an update regarding the matter on the social media platform ‘X’.
The Commission has stated that, prima facie, the song appears to be intimate provocative, objectionable, and in violation of the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the POCSO Act; consequently, the Commission has taken this matter seriously.
The Commission has directed Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt, Rakib Alam, Venkat K. Narayan, and Kiran Kumar to appear before it—along with relevant documents—on Tuesday, March 24, at 12:30 PM.
The Commission has further warned that failure to appear may result in appropriate action being initiated in accordance with the law.
NHRC Issues Notices
In connection with this song featuring Nora Fatehi, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Google India.
Controversy Surrounding the Song ‘Sarke Chunariya’
The song ‘Sarke Chunariya’ features in the upcoming film KD: The Devil. Both Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi are facing criticism as a result of this song.
