Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday expressed deep concern over Delhi's pollution. He said that the level of pollution in the national capital is so high that staying in the city for three days can cause an infection.
Citing research, he claimed that the average life of people in Delhi is decreasing by ten years due to pollution. Gadkari told a program here that Delhi and Mumbai are in the red zone due to pollution. A lot of work needs to be done regarding air and water pollution.

He stressed that along with the development of infrastructure, solving environmental concerns is also important for national development. The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister said that morality, economy, ecology and environment are important for Indian society, but we have not taken the environmental issue seriously.
'Need to solve the problem of traffic jam'
Gadkari said that we import fossil fuels worth about Rs 22 lakh crore. Petrol and diesel contribute a lot to pollution. There is a need to solve the problem of traffic jams on the roads. There is a need to change the fuel use in vehicles. I support alternative fuels. I want to save fossil fuel imports worth Rs 22 lakh crore and put Rs 10-12 lakh crore in the pockets of farmers.
