New Delhi, Jan 2 (IANS) A total of 3,970 senior citizens were registered with Delhi Police in 2014, police said Friday.
According to Delhi Police statistics, the total number of senior citizens registered with Delhi Police has now reached 21,505.
"Delhi Police have also completed the security audit of 20,553 senior citizens among those registered in the national capital," Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi told reporters at the Delhi Police annual press conference.
Bassi said in the last couple of years, a total of 18,766 senior citizens were given identity cards.
"A total of 2,83,086 telephone calls were received by Delhi Police from the senior citizens and over three lakh visits were made by Delhi Police to senior citizens to know about their problems and issues," he said.
Besides senior citizens living alone, Bassi said senior citizens who live alone at home for long hours while their children are out on work, also registered with police.
