The second match will be played on 28 and the third match on July 30. At the same time, the ODI series will start on August 2. Surya will take over the command of the T20 team.
Suryakumar Yadav has been made the captain for the three-match T20 series. At the same time, Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility of vice-captaincy. This is not the first time that Surya will take over the command of Team India. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav had captained India in the five-match T20 series against Australia in November 2023 last year. Under his leadership, the Indian team won this series 4-1. After this, he also got a chance to captain against South Africa in December. India tied this series 1-1. Hopefully, he will be able to make India win this series.
Why did Hardik not get the captaincy? Agarkar answered.
As soon as Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach, there was a change at the captaincy level in T20. Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2024, was considered as a replacement for Rohit Sharma after he retired from T20 Internationals. However, this did not happen. Suryakumar Yadav was made the new T20 captain for the Sri Lanka tour. Ajit Agarkar responded to this. He said, "Pandya is still one of the most important players for us. We want him to become the player he can become. The skills he has are very difficult to find. However, fitness has been challenging for him. In such a situation, it becomes a bit difficult for the coach, selector, and team management. We have a lot of time before the next T20 World Cup. In such a situation, we would like to try some things and see how the situation remains, but Hardik is still the most important player for us."
