On the India Block March from Parliament to the Election Commission, the Delhi Police has said that no permission has been sought for the march yet. The India Alliance of opposition parties is going to take out a march on Monday over allegations of vote rigging. During this, about 300 opposition MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will march from Parliament to Nirvachan Sadan. The opposition MPs will march from Makar Dwar in Parliament House to Parivahan Bhawan via Parivahan Bhawan to Nirvachan Sadan (Election Commission) at 11:30 am.
The opposition says that the Election Commission, in connivance with the BJP, is stealing votes. It also says that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar is doing harm to the voters instead of benefiting them. Due to SIR, the voting rights of lakhs of voters from the state have been snatched away. The opposition is demanding its withdrawal along with the demand for continuous discussion in the House on this matter. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission of rigging through a press conference and a PowerPoint presentation. He had made several claims based on facts of an assembly seat under a Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka and alleged BJP-Election Commission collusion.
Rahul's allegations, Election Commission's response
Earlier, during a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, the opposition leader had alleged that there was collusion between the Election Commission of India and the BJP, which resulted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi getting his third term. Rahul Gandhi said, "The Election Commission is not giving us data in Mahadevpur (Karnataka assembly constituency). If we do this in other Lok Sabha seats too, the truth of our democracy will be revealed." The Election Commission had hit back at this. Election Commission sources had said that if the Congress MP and the opposition leader believe in their analysis and believe that their allegations against the Election Commission are correct, then they should have no problem signing the affidavit. So they have two options - either sign the affidavit or apologize to the country for making absurd allegations against the Election Commission.
'No eligible voter's name will be removed from the list'
Earlier on Saturday, the Election Commission filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court amid protests over the special revision campaign of the voter list in Bihar. Rejecting the allegations of removing the names of voters from the voter list, the Election Commission said that the name of no eligible voter would be removed from the list.
In a petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Special Intensive Revision Campaign (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, the Election Commission was accused of removing the names of 65 lakh voters from the voter list of the state during SIR.
The Supreme Court had sought a reply from the Election Commission regarding this.
The Commission said in its counter-affidavit that the process of removing the name of any voter from the draft voter list published on August 1, 2025, will be done under the rules. Also, the voter will be informed first about the proposal to remove the name and its reason. Every voter will be given a fair opportunity to be heard, an opportunity to provide relevant documents, and a logical order.
