India will make its framework regarding the future of the Internet, the government is committed to digital security

Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that India does not need to emulate any other country or global practice in formulating policies regarding the internet in the future. He said that 82 crore users of the country have the right to decide what kind of internet they want.

During an event organized by the India Global Forum in Dubai, Chandrasekhar said that Europe's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is considered the best standard for internet governance. But we do not agree with this. He said that we have the largest presence on the global internet with 820 million internet users and we should get the opportunity to shape our destiny. So we will chart our course and create our framework for the Internet.

 

Government's responsibility to protect the rights

Discussing the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, the Minister of State for IT said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the digital rights of its citizens. But we do not believe that this should have any impact on the ecosystem of innovation happening in India. He said that the government is committed to making the Internet open, secure, reliable, and accountable.
