Recently, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also said that he is not a big fan of this rule and it is affecting the ability of the Indian all-rounders. The Impact Player rule was introduced in 2023, in which both teams can field any one batsman or bowler as a substitute player as per their demand in each innings.
Akshar Patel gave a frank opinion
Akshar said on Monday, "Whoever is making the rules, they are thinking that everything should work as per the convenience of the batsmen. Certainly, this is making it difficult for the bowlers. Due to these rules, if the team gets an extra batsman, then it feels that if its batting unit does not perform well then it will use the batsman.
He further added, “And whoever comes to bat, he hits with the very first ball because he knows that he has the batting till number eight. That's why I don't like this rule because as an all-rounder I know that the team will either select a batsman or a bowler and not an all-rounder.
Impact on the role of all-rounder
David Warner said that this rule has reduced the role of all-rounders in T-20. Fast bowler Mukesh said that this is unfair to the bowlers. Even if you take four wickets, a batsman can change the match.
