Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined for violating the code of conduct in the 33rd match of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings on Thursday. Hardik, who is captaining the Mumbai franchise, failed to complete 20 overs of bowling in the stipulated time and hence, he has been fined Rs 12 lakh. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this in a statement. This was the first time that Hardik failed to meet the over-rate norms, hence only Rs 12 lakh was fined.
"Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined as his team maintained a slow over-rate during the match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18," the BCCI said in a statement. It was his team's first offense of the season under the IPL's code of conduct relating to minimum overrate. Therefore, a fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed on Hardik. If this mistake is repeated then Hardik and other players of Mumbai Indians may be in big trouble.
Talking about the match, the Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings by nine runs. In this match played in Mullanpur, Mumbai, batting first, scored 192 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 36 runs in 25 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Suryakumar Yadav played an innings of 78 runs in 53 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes. At the same time, Tilak Verma remained unbeaten after scoring 34 runs in 18 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes. Harshal Patel took three wickets and captain Sam Curran took two wickets.
In reply, the Punjab team was reduced to 183 runs in 19.1 overs. For Punjab, Ashutosh Sharma scored 61 runs in 28 balls with the help of two fours and seven sixes and Shashank Singh scored 41 runs in 25 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Apart from this, no batsman from Punjab could score more than 21 runs. Gerald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each for Mumbai. Akash Madhwal, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Gopal got one wicket each.
