Gujarat Titans suffered a defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday in IPL 2025. However, this did not affect the points table and Gujarat's team is still at the top. Gujarat captain Shubman Gill attributed the team's excellent performance in the current IPL to the great communication of head coach Ashish Nehra with the players and said that the former Indian fast bowler knew how to prepare the team.

'Credit to Nehra for strengthening bowling'

Gill credited former Indian fast bowler Nehra for creating the identity of the team and strengthening the bowling unit. He said, 'I think when Gujarat Titans were playing in the first year, Ashish Nehra had a clear vision> He knew how he wanted to prepare the team and how to define the roles of the players. His communication with the players both on and off the field has been excellent.'

'Nehra works on the players individually'

He said, 'There are always departments that can be improved. And the way he works with the players individually, especially the bowlers, is different from everyone else. Many people believe that IPL is won by batsmen but our ideology is different. If you cannot defend the score then it doesn't matter how many runs you score. The way he guides the bowling unit has been a great strength for us.'

Shubman Gill's statement on the fight with Abhishek

Gill also told how he had a fight with Sunrisers Hyderabad opener and good friend Abhishek Sharma over the bat during the IPL. He said, 'Actually it started in our Under-16 days. Abhishek started playing with my bat and there is a story behind it. He was batting on 80 or 90 using my match bat and I didn't want it to break so I asked him to return it. We had a little fight over this. But whenever he asked for my bat I always gave it to him and he scored a lot of runs with it.'

Gill explained why his partnership with Sudharsan was effective.

Gill explained why his partnership with fellow opener Sai Sudharsan is so effective. As an opening pair in this IPL, Sudharsan, and Gill have scored 839 runs at an average of 76.27, which includes three-century partnerships and four partnerships of more than 50 runs. Gill said, 'I think the way we bat is not at all similar, but the left-right combination helps. We both run very well between the wickets and we are players who like to beat the opponent including the bowlers.'
