Manvinder Bisla played a key role in helping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the trophy for the first time by playing a match-winning knock of 89 off 48 balls against Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 IPL final. He also received the Man of the Match award for this innings. He failed to maintain his form in the next season, then KKR released him.
In the year 2015, Bisla joined RCB, but he did not get much opportunity. He stayed away from IPL for 6 years. However, last year it was also reported that Bisla has given up hope of returning to the IPL and will now play in the Sri Lanka Premier League.
Dainik Bhaskar interacted with Bisla to know what his plans are and what challenges he faced after 2015.
This year signed a contract with sports channel for commentary in the domestic tournament and IPL
Bisla told Bhaskar that apart from waiting for his return to IPL for 6 years, he continued to play for Air India as well. At the same time, this year he has tied up with a sports channel for commentary in domestic tournaments and IPL. He now wants to focus his full attention on coaching as well as commentary.
He told that he is coaching the cricketers in the Sports Cube in Gurgaon. In the future, he wants to make his career in coaching and commentary. That's why he has continued with coaching. Even as he waited for his return to the IPL, he remained associated with SportsCube and continued to contribute to the preparation of new players.
Live in Gurgaon with the whole family
Bisla told that he is living in Gurgaon with his entire family. Apart from his mother and father, he is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son.
Got many opportunities but could not capitalize
Bisla said that I got a lot of opportunities. IPL or domestic tournament, everyone supported me. But I could not keep the performance permanent. That's why I had to drop out of the team. I think sometimes you work hard, but the conditions are not in your favor in the match, so you can't do better. I am satisfied with cricket and what I got from the teachers.
Got full support of parents
Bisla said that even in my career, my parents contributed a lot. My father was a volleyball player. He was in a government job. In such a situation, I did not face any kind of financial problems in the initial stage. We were two siblings. Papa never stopped playing.
I was fond of playing cricket like other kids. When I was in fourth grade, I started learning cricket at Anurag Hooda's Cricket Academy in Jawahar Nagar.
If he is not successful till the 10th, then he cannot continue cricket.
Bisla says that if I had not been more successful in cricket till the tenth, then perhaps I would have to concentrate on my studies. But I thank my coaches Rajkumar Sharma and Anurag Hooda and God that I got a chance to play in the World School Tournament when I was in class 10th.
Admission was done in Haryana Cricket Academy in 7th class
Bisla said that my initial coach in Hisar was Anurag Hooda. When I was in class 7th, I got selected in Haryana Cricket Academy, Faridabad. Their coach Rajkumar Sharma guided me and whatever I have achieved in cricket to date, Rajkumar sir and Anurag sir have an important role.
Rajkumar sir was also the hostel in charge. In such a situation, he always guided like parents. We didn't even realize that we were in the hostel. As parents, they helped us in making decisions.
Member of the 2002 Under-19 World Cup team
Bisla says I got a place in Team India in the Under-19 World Cup in 2002. I was included in this team as a batsman. The captain of the team was Parthiv Patel. I was the man of the match in three matches. This year I got a chance to play Ranji for Haryana.
Ajay Ratda was included in the team as a wicketkeeper. Even here I was included as a batsman. In 2004 I played Deodhar Trophy. Also played Duleep Trophy for North Zone from 2004 to 2006.
Played for Himachal for five years
For five years, I played for Himachal, because I felt it was difficult to get a keeping opportunity under Ajay Ratda Bhaiya. I considered myself incomplete without keeping.
Been involved in three teams in IPL
Bisla said that I played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2010. I was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team from 2011 to 2014. After that in 2015, I joined Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although I didn't get a chance to play much. Still, I kept waiting for my return to IPL.
Got a chance for Sri Lanka Premier League, but I didn't go
Bisla says that when I did not get a chance from IPL, I planned to play in Sri Lanka Premier League in 2020 after taking NOC from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. I was also bought by the team there, but I did not go to the league due to the quarantine rules.
