After the riots are over in Khargone, the property game is happening. After the riot, the influential people of the riot-affected area started buying the houses of the victim side at throwaway prices. After the last two riots in Khargone, 30 such houses were sold, but this time after the riots people associated with the Hindu organization are keeping an eye on such efforts. Constantly interacting with the people living in the riot-affected areas. The Hindus are urging the families not to sell the property. Even after the riots this time, information about 'house to sell' has been put outside more than 20 houses.
Now Muslims are camping in Hindu dominated settlements
The riots have started changing the face of some areas of Khargone Nagar in Madhya Pradesh. Thirty years ago the city's Bhatwari Mohalla, Sanjay Nagar, Shivshakti Nagar, Jyoti Nagar, and Zamindar Mohalla were not like they are today. Once upon a time, there was a Hindu majority here and there were houses of Muslims adjacent to it. But the geography and sociology of these regions have changed after the 1992 riots. Many Hindu families sold their homes and fled. Peace-loving Hindus are selling their houses in Shivshakti Nagar, adjacent to Anjuman Nagar. Muslims have converted this area into a marketplace.
Muslims scare us
Many people have sold homes believing themselves to be unsafe and some are still on the way to selling. Recently, after the riots on Ram Navami, the scope of this panic has increased further. A resident of Shivshakti Nagar told me that four-five Hindu families are preparing to sell their houses in the front strip of my house. Here Muslims have also bought houses sold in the back belt. A large part of Sanjay Nagar has a Muslim population and on the other side, there is a settlement of low-income groups and working Hindus. The riot-affected Manish says that whenever the riots happened in the year 2015 and earlier, after this the Muslims scare us that there is no use in living here now. If you sell the house and move away, you will continue to make a profit. They want to increase their population and scope here.
We call it Wagah Border...
The Bhatwadi area behind Rameshwar Talkies in the old city once had an abundance of Hindu families. A street adjacent to it leads to a Muslim settlement and then the entire area behind is Muslim-dominated. Yogesh Saraf of Bhatwadi Mohalla says that we call it Wagah Border. Year after year, the riots poisoned the harmony of the Bhatwadi locality so much that many Mahajans and other families sold their homes and left. In the last few years, more than 10 houses have been sold in Bhatwadi. Now it is occupied by Muslim families.
Hindu residents have indeed migrated from Muslim-dominated settlements due to the riots, but the government is trying its best to take strict action against the culprits. To instill a sense of security among the victims, the administration and the police have proposed to set up police posts in sensitive areas. These include Mullanwadi, Bhavsar Mohalla, Khaskhaswadi, Anand Nagar, etc.
Gajendra Singh Patel, MP Khargone-Barwani
We stand firmly with them to stop the exodus of Hindu families due to the riots. They are providing rations, clothes, and other items to the families whose houses have been completely burnt. We will not be limited to immediate help but will be in touch with the affected families so that no one can intimidate them and force them to leave the house.
