Continuous rains continue to wreak havoc in many cities of Maharashtra. The situation has gone from bad to worse in Mumbai, Pune, Raigad, and many other places. Due to continuous rains, roads, railway tracks, and people's houses are flooded. Public transport services of the state capital have been affected. Local trains are running late. At the same time, many flights have been canceled. People are facing problems due to heavy rains.

Continuous rains have caused waterlogging in Mumbai. At least 11 flights have been canceled. Flights at the airport have been affected by rain. Indigo and SpiceJet have warned passengers of flight delays. At the same time, Air India offered a full refund for canceled flights.

 

However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allowed the opening of schools and colleges when the rains become normal. BMC has requested that parents not believe any other information or rumors about school and college holidays and only trust the official information of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Also, it has been urged to stay in touch with the management of the respective schools and colleges.

 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a 'red alert' or heavy rain in the coastal city. Given this, the police have asked the city dwellers to stay inside their homes till 8.30 am. In case of emergency, dial 100 and 112.

 

The Maharashtra government has urged Karnataka to release more water from the Almatti dam to avoid flooding in Sangli and Kolhapur given heavy rains in the western part of the state. Mumbai recorded 44 mm of rain in the urban area, 90 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 89 mm in the western suburbs during the 24 hours till Thursday morning. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been deployed to the city. Army airlifting teams have also been asked to be on standby.

Four people died in Pune. Three of them died due to lightning. At the same time, two people drowned after falling into the Barvi dam in Thane and a red alert has been declared in Mumbai and Palghar after heavy rains. The observatory in Santacruz, Mumbai has recorded more than 1,500 mm of rain this month. The city recorded 122.1 mm of rain (between Santacruz and Colaba) between 8.30 am and 5 pm yesterday.

 

Four rivers of the state, including Kundalika and Amba, are flowing above the danger mark. There is a constant threat to the villages and settlements located near them. Apart from this, the Mithi River is flowing just one meter below the danger mark.

 

Like Mumbai, a red alert has been issued in Pune till Friday morning. The army has been called in to help the disaster response teams. Officials have reported severe flooding in areas such as Ekta Nagari and Vitthal Nagar and housing societies in Kalyaninagar. Power is missing in Pune. In 90 percent of the cases, the supply was cut off to avoid water-related power accidents. At the same time, schools and colleges here have been ordered to be closed for a day.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited several flood-affected areas and met senior police officials to review rescue and relief efforts.

 

A landslide was reported in Lavasa, a private town about 65 km from Pune. In the video, a portion of the road is completely washed away. Three to four people are feared trapped. A team of NDRF officials has reached the spot.

 

A bridge over a small stream in the Mahad Industrial Development Area in Raigad district was washed away. Officials said the bridge was not constructed for vehicular traffic. An alert has been issued for Raigad and other districts.
