Mumbai terror attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana was finally brought to India on Thursday evening. Rana was brought directly from the airport to Patiala House Court. The court has also sent Rana to 18 days of NIA custody.

 

Different investigation agencies will question Rana in Delhi and Mumbai. Apart from this, Rana will be taken to many places including Delhi, Mumbai, and Agra, where Rana had done recce before the attack.

The first night spent at NIA headquarters

 

The special plane carrying Rana landed at Palam Airport around 7:30 pm on Thursday. After this, the NIA team arrested him. After the arrest, Rana was taken to Patiala House, where he was interrogated for a long time.

 

The NIA had sought 20 days of custody for questioning Rana, citing important evidence including several emails, but the court ordered Rana to be sent to NIA remand for 18 days. According to the information, Rana spent his first night at the NIA headquarters after coming to India. Rana spent half the night going to the court and doing the paperwork. At present, he is in the NIA headquarters.

 

Charges and punishment

 

Rana has been charged with murder, conspiracy to wage war against India, and terrorist acts under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

 

If convicted, he may face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

 

Investigation and interrogation

 

The NIA will take Rana to various places in India, including the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, Agra, Hapur, Kochi, and Ahmedabad, where he and his wife visited a few weeks before the attacks.

 

The agency hopes that Rana's interrogation will provide important information about the larger network behind the attacks and the role of terrorists in Pakistan.
